Why convert a MAN TGE?
The MAN TGE is the commercial-vehicle big brother of the 2017+ VW Crafter - same chassis, same body, same dimensions, often cheaper second-hand because of MAN's commercial-truck reputation rather than passenger-van one. For campervan conversion the TGE is functionally identical to the modern Crafter, and our entire Crafter 2017+ product line fits without modification. If you've bought a TGE, you're getting a Crafter at a slight discount.
Same chassis as the 2017+ Crafter
We list the TGE as its own brand for clarity at search, but in fitting terms it's the Crafter. Every Crafter 2017+ product applies - including the parts you might not need on a Crafter 2006-2017.
What stays the same
vs Crafter 2017+Body dimensions, sliding-door position, panel cutouts, wheel-arch geometry, electrical loom routing. Our kit fits both vans identically - same kitchen pod, same lockers, same bed-box system. Same Scopema swivel and CTA smart kit options.
What's different in practice
TGE-specificMostly cosmetic - the dashboard, badging, and trim differ from the Crafter, but those don't affect the conversion. Some TGE models have slightly different stock seat upholstery, which can matter if you're matching colours. Easy to spot at a measure-up.
MWB vs LWB
MWB
~6.0 mMedium Wheelbase TGE. Same length as a Crafter MWB. Fits most domestic driveways and parking; enough floor space for kitchen, bed, and chair-style toilet setup.
LWB
~6.8 mLong Wheelbase TGE. About a metre longer - enough for a fixed shower cubicle, longer bed, and a proper rear garage. The pick for extended trips or three+ people.
Common questions from MAN TGE owners
Is the TGE really identical to the Crafter?
Mechanically and dimensionally, yes - same chassis, same body shell, same panel geometry. The visible differences are dashboard trim, badging, and some option packs. None of those affect campervan furniture fit.
Why don't you have a separate TGE range?
Because building a separate identical range would be confusing and would duplicate every product photo and configurator. The Crafter 2017+ MWB/LWB kit IS the TGE MWB/LWB kit. Pick the wheelbase that matches your van and you're done.
Do I need any TGE-specific extras?
No. Scopema swivel bases, CTA smart kit, and ply lining are all the same parts as for the Crafter 2017+. The drivetrain question (FWD or RWD) also applies the same way.
